read what Jakob has to say about the driving age

In my opinion the legal driving age should be 18. In New Zealand a teenager can start to drive a car at 15, although he has to be under the supervision of an adult or person with a full license. I think to start driving at that age is too early for a teenager, especially when there is no compulsory driver’s school. And the consequences are obvious, a lot of young drivers cause crashes with severe damage and loss of lives. Just because they are being stupid, going too fast or being drunk! In my opinion a lot of these crashes could be prevented by simply putting the minimum driving age up! When people start driving at the age of 18, they are much more mature and normally grown out of their puberty, which can make a big difference to their driving behavior. At the age of 18 a young driver can also be made responsible for the damage he causes.

However, I can also see the need for young people, especially in rural areas, to drive a car, just to be mobile or simply to meet friends.

  1. driving is associated with responsibility and reliable monly if the drivers are mature. Obviously, above 18 is essential wherever it is.

  2. the concept of maturity is very subjective. A person who may appear mature to someone, may not appear mature to someone else...

  3. lets think about results we can gain of increasing the legal driving age:
    1- less accidents and crashes
    2- long life
    3- saving money
    4- safe surrounding
and many other results i think government should take this affair seriously

  5. A good driver must have a good personality... but obviously we cannot add this into the condition of getting a driving license.
We can only hope that young people will grow out of the eager to showing off as soon as possible.

  7. Yeah Jakob, sometimes irresponsible drivers make a risk not only for their lives, but for other road users, who obey RC.
