Rashid writes about his first impression of Dunedin

Prior to my arrival to Dunedin I had gotten information about it through reading books, looking up about it on the internet, and even contacting my cousin who's been staying in Dunedin for some years.

When I first arrived the information i got and the view from the plane gave me the impression that Dunedin is a beautiful city with a lot of greener, and has people who are kind and open to the different varieties of religions and cultures existing in their community.

However, I wasn't fully accurate, all of what i thought was totally different from what I've seen in the subsequent days. The beauty that I had in my mind was not even near what it truly is, the greenery is even more green, the people are much more warm-hearted and kinder than what i expected, and the gentle breeze passing over my skin on a good day was far from what i thought.

On that account, I firmly believe first impressions are not true or perhaps precise and real experience can be very different from what you think

  1. I consider what I would expect your country to be like and I have been surprised how those images changed after my friend who is teaching in Muscat at the moment sent me photos of a fabulous boat trip she took - the sea looked stunning yet grey and the cliffs barren and golden.

  2. the first day I arrived at Dunedin my hostfather drove me to the StClair beach before we got to home. I felt so happy I can experience surfing here. Great

  3. Interesting, Rashid. Before I came here I hadn't looked into any information about Dunedin because I was really looking for the first real impression of Dunedin.
