Alex compares his hometown St Petersburg with Dunedin

When I first arrived, my impressions of Dunedin were very different. But I think that they have matched with imp I had expected. Indeed, because of its location, Dunedin isn't a very warm city. A cloudy sky and wet weather have an influence on people, but for me its not a problem. My home city Saint-Petersburg is also very, very cloudy. The Finnish Gulf affects our weather. Certainly, Dunedin's winter is warmer than Spb's winter, but a summer I bet is the similar. The second impression was about a city's size. When you live a whole of your life in a 4.5 million mega-police it can surprise you.
Anyway, I think that Dunedin is a very safe place, because of its students population. Nowadays , I've got some friends and activities, such as Unipool, and I've never got bored. I can add, as well, that I really enjoy beaches and mountain climbing here in NZ. I've got a car and it enables me to travel.
To sum up, I would say that Dunedin is a great place to study and I've got a nice opportunity to win some new friends.

  1. Do you mean megalopolis!? which refers to a heavily populated city.
It is great that you are enjoying not only Dunedin's weather but all the scenic opportunities it offers too.

  6. I'm enjoying my life in Dunedin, too.
The weather in not a problem to me, but it seems everyone hates how changeable it is.
I like the population here as I can no longer stand the >7 million people in HK!!

  7. the dynamics of a city like ours in Dunedin is so unusual. Suddenly (about this time of the year) 20,000 students evacuate the city. Some cafes close and the feeling is far more sedate. Suddenly in late January the energy returns!

  8. Dunedin has a lot of similarities with my hometown, Qingdao, a harbour city, except the weather. The road is not flat in my hometown, either. We have very delicious seafood but I almost cannot have here. It's surprising that why people here eat more meat rather than seafood although it's harbour city. But the good thing is that I can enjoy surfing here of which I have dreamed. In my hometown I cannot because no waves there.

  10. Yeah, as lots of people are taliking about weather in Dunedin, I think I'm one of them. What the interesting thing for me is for people who were born even in Dunedin to complain about it, like my host father :)
