NZ traffic accident statistics researched by Kota

I think the appropriate driving age should be over 18. As a reason, young drivers tend to cause the numbers of car accidents because their minds aren’t ready to drive carefully.

When people around 15, it’s one of the most difficult periods, especially at the time when young people feel too much stress toward others like their parents and they are also at a rebellious age, I think. Meanwhile this feeling relates to their driving ways, for example car chases at night or drunk driving.

In 2007 in New Zealand, there was a proposed amendment about the legal driving age. Its content was to increase the driving age from 15 to 16 and to decrease the figure of traffic death accidents. According to statistics from NZ government, the rate of traffic accidents in the first month when young people get the restricted license shows that 18-19 years old points 2.5 times,17 years old tells 4.5 times, 16 years old demonstrates 8 times and 15 years old shows 10 times as many accidents as over 20-year-old people have.

Taking account of the reason in which I mentioned above the driving age should be over 18.

  1. thanks Kota for statistics... i agree with ur opinion people under 18 are less reponsible and dont care about the results they like adventures and wanna show their abilities in driving ... however, nowadays it's easy to buy a car this reason and the legal driving age increase accidents

  3. I agree with you only with New zealand I think the mentality of people differs from one country to another.
Like in some country the eagerness of young teenager can cause accident and not their bad driving.
driving is a skill it should be nurtured before a person can have the full freedom of driving or else more accident will happen.

  5. Raising the driving age from 15 to 16 - what a big change!
Personally I cannot accept that people can drive at such a young age.

When I heard that NZ allow young people to drive since 15 years old, I shocked! That's too young.
